My everyday mission

Is to make Angel laugh.

One way is to copy everything that she does. Be it talking, singing, dancing, or just just some simple hand gestures, it never fails to get a laughter out of her.

But more often than not, Angel likes to bully me. She likes to order me around, pull my hand, make me carry her, make me go her direction, rub her hands on my face, kick me, pull my hair, slide down my legs, make me piggyback her, put toys on my head while I sleep, and push me down the bed, repeatedly.

That's ok though. If there's only one person in this world that Angel can bully to make her laugh, I'd gladly be the one.

Self taught

I remember just a few weeks ago Angel was pulling out all the tissue papers from the box just for fun. Today, I saw her drop a bit of food on her dress, she quickly ran to grab the tissue box, pulled out one piece and used it to clean her dress.

This is an amazing sight for me. The teachers might have taught her some life skills, but I believe more likely that she learned it all on her own. Angel learned this simply by listening to us and observing what we do, repeatedly.

It's how she learned:
  • To use a spoon.
  • To turn on the iPad, slide her finger to unlock, switch apps, and change volume.
  • Which buttons to press to open and close the lift doors.
  • Which buttons to press to turn on the DVD player and eject the tray.
  • Which remote to pass to me to play the DVD.
  • To hold and phone and say hello and bye.
  • To use the door handle.
  • To hold a imaginary mic, close her eyes, and pretend to sing.
  • And more..
Angel may be quiet at times, but she's definitely very observant.

I think I need to behave myself more now. Less swearing, be even more considerate to other people, and be someone that I hope Angel will grow up to be - good natured.

A photo walk

I had not gone for a photo walk for a long time. My photography style has evolved over the years, and these days I photograph Angel a lot. So when Jing Wen asked me if I wanted to join him and Shuzhen to walk around Outram, Tanjong Pagar, and Chinatown, I said yes. I wanted to see, with my current style, what I would capture.

When we first set out, my mind was on "street photography" mode - capturing strangers in action. But it didn't feel right, I struggled and I didn't like what I was capturing. I was trying to copy others.

Slowly, I settled down. I decided to switch back to my own style. I was now taking more time to "see" and compose to my own liking. Are my shots close to my vision, my goal? Not quite, but I'm happy with the direction I'm in, and I'm very much enjoying myself.

As a bonus, Angel and mama came looked for me at Chinatown for lunch. And of course, more shots of her :)
